Potential from the US – China trade war

The US is set to increase tariffs of Chinese products. Investors have been expanding or relocating their textile and garment production into other ASEAN countries including Philippines, where is one of the beneficiaries countries of the trade war between US and China. Philippines has a large domestic market with a population of over 100 million, large number of not too expensive educated workers with various skills and strong export potential. As Philippines is extremely dependent on importing garment machinery and parts. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is targeting $1 billion in incremental investments, $3 billion in apparel exports and 600,000 jobs for textile industry. The demand for machineries and accessories are expected to increase dramatically.

The debut show was held successfully during 23 – 26 August, 2018 at the SMX Convention Centre. VIP attendees included the Head of Ministry, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of Philippines, the Hon. Ramon Lopez. With support from the Philippine Board of Investment (BOI), Confederation of Wearable Exporters of the Philippines (CONWEP), Textile Producers Association of the Philippines (TEXPAP), Garment Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (GARMAP), and Institutes in Department of Science and Technology. As a result of high sales volume during last show, our exhibitors were urged to reserve booth and expand their size for the coming expo.
